Privacy & Data Security Regulation: Implications for RIM & IG

Founding Partner Martin Tully will be speaking on a panel for the Boise Valley Chapter of ARMA International .

Privacy and data security laws have been adopted in almost every state, and a national law is looking increasingly likely. These laws vary in scope and detail, with some, like California’s Consumer Protection Act (CCPA) focus on data privacy, and others, like New York’s SHIELD Act, focus on data security, and still others, like Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) have a very narrow focus. While all these laws have gotten plenty of public attention, less is known about the requirements they place on records management and information governance: Do these laws have records retention requirements? Records deletion requirements? Records maintenance requirements? What are the regulations that impact records and information systems? How are they enforced, and by whom? Three experts – each with deep knowledge of the laws mentioned above – will present an overview of the RIM and IG impacts of privacy and data security regulations and give us an update on how these laws are evolving.

Saving Face: When Facial Recognition Meets Data Privacy and Security Rules

Join Founding Partner Martin Tully for a live webcast.

Description: Of all the modern technologies that leverage biometric data as a means of ascertaining or confirming human identity, facial recognition technology is perhaps the trendiest, and most divisive. The industry is robust and growing, with the facial recognition market clocking in at just under $4 billion in 2018. Yet, the development and usage or facial recognition technology is controversial, in part because of its perceived encroachment on anonymity. Handing over biometric data triggers privacy and accuracy concerns, and our panel will take a deep dive into those concerns and what is being done to answer them.

Topics Covered:
·         What exactly is facial recognition?
·         What companies are using it and how is it being used?
·         How has the industry grown and evolved over the last decade?
·         What are the privacy concerns surrounding facial recognition?
·         What are the accuracy concerns surrounding facial recognition?
·         What’s the future of facial recognition?

Cambridge Analytica, TikTok being banned by the Trump Administration, Delta and the US Government using Facial Recognition, Russians gaming Facebook to influence the election...

The use of data to identify people, behaviors, and to manipulate social media and engagement is colliding with an antiquated identity system that can no longer keep people safe based on signatures and data points like your date of birth and mother's maiden name.
